Different buttons have different pre-programmed styles so lets look at a few alternative
styles,
BEACON - This is made up of more components to give the shaded effect as can be seen
above, two ‘beacon’ (normal / over) areas, one background, three transparent areas
and the text, the background has a scheme 2 line style, so scheme colour 2 must
be chosen to complement the button.
CANDY - this is quite straightforward, a gradient background with rounded corners
from scheme colour 1 to 2, and a gradient transparency over the top to give the effect..
The transparency is slightly smaller than the background giving a added edge to the
button, changing the over colour changes the background, but retains the gradient
transparency effect
BRIGHT - the background is a horizontal gradient from scheme 4 to white, but also
has added shade / tint (-80%) so doesn’t match colour 4, the one thing I don’t like
is the green outer glow filter applied to the text, which one can’t get rid of (unless
one uses a green button fill).
One unusual thing is the larger than normal spacing to the buttons when used vertically,
but If you can live with the green text glow, then being a simple rectangular button
it lends itself well to customisation, the buttons on the right were simply given
a green gradient conical fill
Only the two end ‘Beacon areas change colour on mouse over, but as with all themed
graphics various fill can be applied, in the grain effect buttons on the right the
back and normal fills were given the same bitmap ‘ground’ fill with -40% tint, the
over was given the same fill with +70% tint, the orange border is simply because
it uses scheme 2 for the line style, which would be carefully chosen if this was
an actual web site navbar.
The simple buttons on the right are just a bitmap added to the back colour and over
colour see here for adding a bitmap to a button
