Just a few notes on the software used to create this site - Serif WebPlus,
WebPlus (WP) is part of a suite of programs produced by Serif Europe Ltd, their flagship product is PagePlus, a desktop publishing program, which I’ve used for many years, other programs include DrawPlus (vector & Animation), PhotoPlus (paint program), ImpactPlus (basic 3D Animation - excellent for Text animation) click here to see a few simple animation experiments, (caution - for the dial ups - animations produce larger files and longer opening of a web pages), PanaramaPlus (producing Panoramic pictures), and Movie|Plus for creating Movies of video or still images, there are many other software products but I haven’t tried them.
When I started this site there was the temptation to go for one of the ‘bigger’ players (which are also more expensive), the thinking being that they would offer easier ways to get the site up and running, but being that I was well used to Serif PagePlus since version 5, I decided to give WebPlus a go, and I’m very glad I did.
One thing I was surprised at, was when I ran some of the pages through the W3C valuator, - This is used to check if the web page is html 4.01 compliant as far as the underlying code is concerned, I had expected many errors, but the only one found was due to the way WP had re-sampled a single Gif image to get a thumbnail, changing this single thumbnail allowed the page to validate, so I’m very impressed that the code WP produces conforms to present standards.
The W3C valuator did say I could put the above logo one each page that passed, but that seems a little cheeky as WebPlus produced the code - not me, and also I haven’t checked the validator recently after some site alterations, so not sure it still passes..
